Founded in 1990, the Mt. Washington Valley Economic Council (MWVEC) was created to address a clear need for long range economic planning for the region. Conceived as a public/private partnership the Council identified the need to go beyond town borders and create a larger, more regional identity. The 12 valley towns which were selected to make up the Council include:
Albany, Bartlett, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Freedom, Jackson, Madison, Ossipee, Tamworth, Brownfield and Fryeburg, ME. Overall, the MWVEC has learned that our organization is unique. We continuously find ourselves looking for prototypes, upon which we can model our next steps, only to find that we are breaking new ground. Our next evolution will be the most difficult, as we face the need to provide greater specific benefit to the region through real diversification. This next phase will take more time and will require that we ensure harmonious development with our natural resources and current retail and recreational environment.
Mission Statement: To enhance our communities by fostering the formation of new business and attracting businesses to relocate to the area, with a commitment to help them diversify, prosper and enhance their sustainability while preserving the region's natural beauty.
